Coastal Cleanup with Blackbough

At Blackbough Swim, we believe that the beauty of our oceans deserves to be cherished and preserved. Our love for the sea extends far beyond just creating stylish swimwear; it's a commitment to protect the very waters that inspire us. Last September 10th 2023, we took our dedication to the next level as we embarked on a coastal cleanup at Malinao Beach, Siargao, Philippines. This event marks another step in our ongoing journey toward becoming an enterprise centered on sustainability and ocean advocacy.

With 150 passionate local volunteers by our side, we combed the shores of Malinao Beach, collecting a staggering 100 sacks of trash. The sight of pristine beaches marred by plastic waste and debris is a powerful reminder of the urgent need for change. As a business that is made by a team of dreamers and doers, we knew that it was time to roll up our sleeves and lead by example.

The coastal cleanup was more than just a one-day event for us; it was a manifestation of our commitment to conscious living. Our oceans are not just a source of inspiration; they are life-sustaining ecosystems that deserve our respect and protection. By taking action to remove plastic and waste from our shores, we aim to contribute to the preservation of these vital ecosystems.

Sustainability in Action
As a swimwear brand, we understand our role in the fashion industry's impact on the environment. That's why we've made conscious choices, such as using recycled materials (icymi, 80% of our swimwear is made from fabric that uses recycled nylon!) and adopting ethical manufacturing practices. The coastal cleanup is an extension of our sustainability efforts, demonstrating that we are not just a brand but also advocates for change.

Community and Collaboration
One of the most heartwarming aspects of this cleanup was the sense of community and collaboration that was in the air. We were guided by the local government units while being joined by 150 local volunteers from various backgrounds, all united by a common goal: to care for our oceans. This event exemplified the power of collective action and the impact we can make when we work together. In the spirit of celebration after the clean up, attendees enjoyed refreshments and snacks from local businesses!

Our coastal cleanup at Malinao Beach marks a significant milestone in our sustainability journey, but it's not the end of the road. We're committed to making even more concrete efforts to reduce waste, minimize our environmental footprint, and advocate for a cleaner, healthier planet. We invite you to join us on this journey as we continue to make waves of change.

Thea Set and Tote Bag

In the end, our coastal cleanup is more than just picking up trash; it is about sending a message. It is a message of hope, of determination, and of our unwavering dedication to the oceans that inspire us every day. Building on this initiative, we're excited to announce a special partnership with International Coastal Cleanup Philippines.

To expand our conservation efforts, we will be launching a checkout tip so that everyone in the Blackbough community can pitch in regardless of where they are in the world! Throughout September, we will be matching every contribution made, doubling our support for keeping our oceans clean. We hope that through these initiatives, we are able to make a concrete and long-lasting impact in protecting our source of inspiration. Thank you for your never-ending support in Blackbough and our advocacies!
